Almost 30% of the applications received for the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) at S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) for the upcoming class of 2019 are from non-engineers, an indication of the rich diversity in the pool of applicants.

SPJIMR made the announcement soon after the application process for the MBA-equivalent two-year full time program for 2017-19 for Indian candidates closed on December 16, 2016.

The applications window is now open only for international candidates not residing in India. International candidates, including Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), but not non-resident Indians, can apply till March 1, 2017.

SPJIMR’s PGDM has an intake of 240 Indian nationals every year. The program has another 36 seats for international applicants.

The processing of applications has started and the first shortlist of candidates will be announced by the second week of January. Interviews will be held in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru in January and February.

Participants will be intimated about their individual interview call dates and can pick options for attending interviews at their chosen locations.

At about 30% of the total, the number of non-engineer applications is 5% higher than the non-engineer applications received last year. About 35 % of applicants this year are women.

There is a good mix of freshers and candidates with work experience from different backgrounds, sectors and specialisations under five years.

This year, SPJIMR also saw an increase of applications from North East India, which is an early indicator of the batch having good cultural diversity.

Dr. Vasant Sivaraman, Chairperson of the PGDM program said, “An early review suggests we have received a rich applicant pool for the 2017-19 batch. As in the past, we will have an interview process commencing January 2017, well ahead of other leading schools. This will enable candidates to plan dates with convenience. We look forward to meeting the candidates as part of our admissions process.”

Prof. Bindu Kulkarni, Associate Programme Head, who is also the faculty in charge of admissions, said the application pool has candidates from diverse fields such as consulting, medicine, fashion, mass media, hospitality, manufacturing, analytics, e-commerce along with engineering, commerce, economics and business studies graduates.

SPJIMR is now ranked fifth in the all India B-School rankings issued by Business Today magazine, and came out fourth in terms of learning experience. The institute is noted for its strong industry interaction, innovative teaching methods, good student connect and experienced faculty.

Business Today ranked SPJIMR fifth in ‘future orientation’, reflecting the SPJIMR pedagogy which prepares participants to work with unstructured problems and sends them to some of the best global business schools for advanced courses and exchange programmes.

SPJIMR has launched two new programmes this year, the Post Graduate Management Programme for Women (PG-MPW) – a management programme for women aspiring to return to the workforce and the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM).
