MBA classes usually see a predominance of students from an engineering background but those from Humanities & Social Sciences from 33% the Class of 2018 at Yale School of Management.

The Business stream comes next at 22% followed by Engineering/Informational Systems & Computer Science and Economics at 17% each. Mathematics & Physical Sciences account for the remaining 11% as far as Undergraduate Majors are concerned.

With a total enrollment of 334, the students’ median GMAT is 730 with middle 80% GMAT range of 690-760. The median undergraduate GPA is 3.65 with 80% range of undergraduate GPA from 3.31-3.91.

Women comprise 46% of the class, 28% are U.S. students of colour and 13% under-represented U.S. students of colour. In citizenship by region, 64% are from North America, 24% from Asia Pacific, 10% from Europe, Africa & Middle East 7%.

Admission Eligibility and Process

The online application for the full-time MBA program is accepted from July through April. The school has three rounds of application deadlines. The first one is in September with the decision in December, the second in January with the decision in March and round 3 in March with the decision in May.

Applicants must have a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or the international equivalent and must have taken either the GMAT or the GRE. They have to fill up the online application form (including an essay), provide transcripts from every college or university attended, submit two professional recommendations, complete the video questions and pay the application fee.

To make the application process as affordable as possible for candidates from developing countries and with diverse backgrounds, Yale SoM has a sliding-scale application fee structure. The standard application fee is $225. For applicants earning less than $20,000 a year, it is $175. For applicants earning less than $10,000 a year, it is $125.

The application fee is based on the self-reported compensation information you provide in the application. If you are admitted and enrolled, this compensation information will be verified and the admission offer will be contingent on successful verification.

Application fee waivers are available to individuals who meet any of these criteria: Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) MBA Prep Fellows, Forté MBALaunchers, current or former Peace Corps volunteer, current staff or alumni of Teach for America, Teach for China or Teach for India. Those meeting any of these criteria would have to email [email protected] to request an application fee waiver.

The application fee is automatically waived for individuals who meet any of these criteria: active U.S. military or U.S. veteran, current Yale graduate student, or Yale undergraduate student applying to the Silver Scholars Program.

Although full-time work experience is strongly encouraged, it is not a requirement for admission. The incoming students have an average of three to five years of work experience when they start the program, although the overall range of experience is wider than that. A select group of students called Silver Scholars are admitted directly from college.

For international applicants, a three-year degree from an accredited institution is acceptable. Typically, successful applicants whose degree was earned in fewer than 16 total years of education have completed an additional master’s degree as well, although it is not required.
