Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) hosted its 17th Annual Convocation on Saturday, March 26, 2016. The two day occasion witnessed a pre-convocation ceremony on March 25, 2016. The ceremonies were marked by the presence of esteemed guests and parents of the graduating students.
The convocation is held each year to confer the title of the Fellow of Indian Institute of Management Indore for its Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) and diplomas to the successful participants of Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP-Mumbai) and Post Graduate Programme in Management MX-Mumbai (PGPMX, Mumbai). The first batch (2011-16) of Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) also graduated this year with a total 104 students. They received Integrated Diploma in Management for the same.
During the Convocation, 16 FPM participants received the title of Fellow of IIM Indore. 447 participants of PGP and 65 participants of PGP-Mumbai received the Post Graduate Diploma in Management. 104 IPM participants received the diplomas of Five Year Integrated Programme in Management. 59 participants of EPGP and 12 participants of PGPMX-UAE received the Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management.
Mrs. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairperson, State Bank of India was the Chief Guest for the convocation. On 
this occasion, a tree plantation event was also organised.
The Annual Convocation began with an amazing colourful convocation procession where the Chief Guest, Board and faculty members of IIM Indore walked through the aisle towards the convocation venue.
Mr. Jagdish Capoor, Chairman, IIM Indore then declared the convocation open. ‘You may be moving out of the Institute, but your linkage with the Institute will always remain the same. I wish you move ahead with the same fire alive, same passion and greater rigor. Choose a straight path and keep it simple’, he advised the students. He mentioned that this is the first time that 703 students are graduating from IIM Indore, which is a result of a variety of programmes added with time. He said that this ceremony is a significant milestone which depicts the phenomenal progress of the Institute. He appreciated the Institute’s infrastructure, academic activities and extra-curricular activities. He concluded his address congratulating the graduating students.
Besides the Scholarships and Awards given to students during the ceremony on March 25, 2016, medals for Academic Excellence were presented to the following PGP Indore participants by the Chief Guest:
- The IIM Indore Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance Rank 1 to Vatsal Kumar.
- The IIM Indore Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance Rank 2 to Ashish Arora.
- The IIM Indore Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance Rank 3 to Rahul Handoo.
- The IIM Indore Gold Medal for the Best Woman Participant for Scholastic Performance to Parul Gupta.
IIM Indore Gold Medals for Scholastic Performance were presented to the IPM participants as per the following details:
- IIM Indore Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance Rank 1 to Kapil Kanungo.
- IIM Indore Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance Rank 2 to NMR Sriharsha.
- IIM Indore Gold Medal for Scholastic Performance Rank 3 to Deepanshu Yadav.
- IIM Indore Gold Medal for the Best Woman Participant for Scholastic Performance to Snigdha Singh.
IIM Indore Gold Medals for Scholastic Performance were presented to the PGP Mumbai, PGPMX-UAE and EPGP participants as per the following details:
- PGP-Mumbai – Ashish Gupta
- PGPMX-UAE – Chandrakant Sharma
- EPGP Batch (2014-2015)- Abhishek Shah
- EPGP Batch (2015-16)- Prashant Sharma
This was followed by the Convocation Address by Mrs. Arundhati Bhattacharya.
Congratulating the students on her success she said, ‘Success means different to different people. For a person who has difficulty in arranging a meal, getting a meal is a success. For a person who has everything, maintaining that success is a success. And for you, all the graduating students, getting a degree from such an eminent B-School, is a success. However, as you go ahead, individual success would not be sufficient. It is like climbing a mountain and realizing that there is a bigger peak behind that.’
Mrs. Bhattacharya while sharing her experience mentioned that a person who has the courage to take a stand, initiate something, take the risk and atleast try something new is always appreciated. Giving the example of Jan Dhan Yojna that was started by the government, she mentioned how initially the scheme was not creating an impact, but later with better plan and the courage to take risk, there are more than 3.1 crore accounts created across rural India.
‘We as organizations like people who give solutions to the problems and don’t just come up with one. Finding solutions to the problems will help you become a valuable person for the team,’ she mentioned. Discussing about balance in professional and personal life she said that team work is important here also because at some time you need to prioritize your things. And if you are not a good team player, you will lag behind and not be able to handle your work, neither at home, nor at office. ‘You should also help the person who needs help. This would help you increase your sphere of influence and make you a better person as well’, she said.
She concluded her speech mentioning that one must always find ways of going beyond the work, and contributing something to the society as well. This would help you taste the real meaning of success and give you the ability to read the bigger picture with an open mind. ‘Climb the mountain not so that the world sees you, but so that you can see the world’, she advised the graduating students who would be entering the corporate world.
Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan then spoke about the various major events held at IIM Indore. He also gave a brief description about the academic infrastructure and the achievements of the students in the past one year. He concluded his address congratulating the graduating students and wished them luck for their future.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
