Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) expects most of the seats for its MBA program to be filled this year judging by the increase in the number of students turning up for counselling at its affiliated colleges.
In the first phase of counselling that began on June 13, 1200 application forms were received for the 4800 seats available for various courses including MBA. Counselling is open to all those who have appeared in CMAT without making the scores a criteria.
University officials expect 70-80% of the seats to be filled by July 17, the last date for the third counselling.
In the first phase of counselling, which began on June 13, 1200 forms were sold for the total available 4800 seats. A total of 68 colleges are participating in the counselling, down by eight from last year as these colleges had closed down.
RTU admission officials attribute increased interest for MBA program to the changes made in the syllabus to make it more job oriented incorporating suggestions from the industry and experts. Also, a good number of B Tech graduates have also shown interest in MBA, apart form Bcom. Graduates.
Vishnu Goyal, Coordinator, MBA admissions and Director, Centre for Electronic Governance, says the poor job market for engineering was also swelling the applicants ranks.
Meanwhile, the demand for MBA graduates has increased with openings in Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and other sectors not only in Rajasthan and other parts of India, but also globally. In Rajasthan itself, creation of industrial corridors and other facilities have led to increased activity in the sector.
During the past five years, poor response from aspirants had led to the closure of as many as 50 institutions offering MBA programs, sources say.
Sanjeev Mishra, Coordinator for admissions at RTU, says jobs for management graduates have showed positive signs for the past two years and he expects the demand to rise in the coming years. (Image Courtesy : en.wikipedia.org)
