Team IIM Ahmedabad has emerged as winners of the KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) national finals.
The four-member students’ team comprising PGP students B Ramachandran, Rajaram Suresh, Manu Gulati and Riya Gupta received a trophy along with prize money of Rs 100,000.
The team now moves on to the international finals of the competition at Dubai in April 2016 with 22 other successful teams from all over the world.
According to KPMG, the competition is to test participating team’s ability to analyze and respond to realistic business scenarios. Thus, at every stage of the competition the participating teams are given a detailed case study.
Each team is expected to review the case dossier, identify and analyze key business issues, develop a compelling set of recommendations and prepare a presentation for the judges. The time allotted is three hours.

Team Ahmedabad was pitted against other teams from ten Indian business schools— IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SP Jain Mumbai, XLRI Jamshedpur and Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
More than 2000 students had participated in the competition this year.
The competition had three rounds with increasing levels of difficulty and elimination in each round. In the final round, the participants were asked to frame a detailed plan of action for implementing the strategy proposed by them in the earlier rounds.
The case studies were on the aviation sector with focus on defining the long term strategy for an airline that had lost market share and was also challenged on profitability.
