Twenty candidates have scored overall 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2016 as the results of the test held on December 4 was declared.
The Indian Institute of management Bangalore (IIMB), convenor of CAT 2016, said in a press release that the shortlist for personal interviews will be announced by January 9 evening.
The 20 who emerged with top scores, are all male with engineering background. “However, in the sectionals, many non-engineers and female candidates have scored 100 percentile,” Prof. Rajendra K Bandi, Convener, CAT 2016, said.
As many as 1.95 lakh candidates had appeared for the test held in 138 cities across India. CAT is a mandatory admission test to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top business schools.
The candidates were informed individually by text messages about the results and their overall percentile even as the results were announced on the CAT website (www.iimcat.ac.in) on January 9.
“The untiring support of the CAT Committee, comprising admissions chairpersons of IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow, and the tremendous hard work by the CAT 2016 Secretariat at IIM Bangalore played a big role in enabling us to declare the results on schedule,” Prof. Bandi said.
The shortlist for personal interviews will be available on the website (www.iimb.ernet.in) later in the day, he added.
The number of applicants for the CAT 2016 had touched a record 7-year high with 2,32,434 applications received till the deadline on September 27, 2016. The previous year, the number of registered candidates was 2,18,664.
Prof. Bandi had stated on September 27 that from the period CAT 2010 to CAT 2016, this was the highest number of applicants. The percentage of female candidates had marginally gone up by 1% compared to 2015.
“While in 2015, 82 % of the applicants took the test, this year the number swelled to 83.6 %,” he had stated.
Referring to the increase in female candidates, Prof. Bandi said, “If we look at the total increase in the applications compared to last year, which is close to 14,000, almost half of these additional applications have come from female candidates. This is a positive sign. That means, the increase of female candidates is more than the increase of male candidates,” he added.
