HBS Class of 2018 Summer Internship Sees Median Base Salary of $8,000

Summer internship placement for the Class of 2018 at Harvard Business School (HBS) saw the students draw a median base salary of $8,000, a median other guaranteed compensation of $4,500 with 19% receiving other guaranteed compensation.

According to the internship report released by the school, the batch comprised 934 students, 398 of them women at 43%. International students at 329 made up for 35% and U.S. ethnic minorities 25% with 238 students.

The cohort had an average 55 months of post-college work experience. They represented 60 industries. The international students were from 68 countries.

As far as undergraduate Majors are concerned, 41% were from Economics and Business, 38% from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and 21% from Humanities and Social Sciences.

According to the internship report released by the school, the batch comprised 934 students, 398 of them women at 43%. International students at 329 made up for 35% and U.S. ethnic minorities 25% with 238 students.

While 87% of the class was seeking active employment, 12% were not seeking employment. Of them, 8% starting own business and 3% other activities and 1% company sponsored or already employed. Another 1% was continuing their education.

In industry destinations, Financial Services topped the list with 26% of the students opting for the sector. Technology at  20% came next followed by Consulting 16%, Health Care 8%, Consumer Products   7%, Manufacturing 6%, Services 5%, Entertainment/Media and Retail/Trading 4% each and Non-profit/Government 3%.

In function destinations, once again, Finance claimed 28% followed by Consulting 18%, Marketing 17%, Business Development 13%, General Management and Strategic Planning 10% each, Others 5%.

In location destinations, the United States had an 85% share in which the Northeast made for 39%, West 28%, Midwest 6%, Mid-Atlantic and Southwest 5% each followed by South with 3%.

International locations accounted for 15%. Europe had a 6% share followed by Asia 4%, Latin America  2% and Australia & Oceania, Canada, Middle East & North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa rounding off the picture with 1% each.
