Management aspirants cried foul when IIM Indore made mathematics in standard 12 compulsory to appear for the entrance exam for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). Now the Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I), has revoked its decision, at least for this year.
Not long after the IIM administration announced compulsory mathematics in standard 12/HSC examination in the eligibility criteria for the 5-year IPM, aspirants who had either dropped a year for entrance examination preparation or were busy giving final touch to their preparations for the course shot off e-mails to the institute, raising their concern.
In response IIM Indore’s administration has relaxed the eligibility criteria. IIM-I Public relations Officer, Akhtar Parvez, said, “The norms were relaxed following representation from the students. Many had dropped a year to prepare for the entrance examination. E-mails were pouring in after the release of entrance examination notification. Soon, a corrigendum will be issued.” He, however, said the institute may impose the eligibility criteria from the next year. “A prior notification will be released, if it happens,” he said.
IIM I representatives said the institute had made eligibility criteria tougher this year so as to bring better talent to the course. Students having non-maths educational background apparently faced difficulties in coping with some of the subjects.
Application Open Date & Deadline For IPM
The application window for aptitude test (AT) of IPM course is open till April 16. The test will be held in 28 cities across the country on May 13. Candidates will be selected on the basis of overall performance in AT and personal interview. The candidates who clear the AT would be shortlisted for the personal interview.
Eligibility For The IPM Course In 2016
Candidates who have obtained minimum 60 per cent marks in classes X and XII can apply for admission in the course. After two years of intensive study of foundational disciplines, the IPM participants train as managers along with the participants of the institute’s two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management, undertaking the same course package in management studies in year 4 and 5.
The programme was launched by the IIM-Indore in 2011 and has drawn a good response from students.
