The NMAT by GMAC examination for admission to MBA and other post graduate diploma programs in several of India’s top management institutes, is scheduled to be held from October 7 to December 20, 2016. We take a look at how to prepare for the test.
Speed and accuracy are the main requirements for those appearing in NMAT by GMAC, a computer based test that has to be completed in 120 minutes.
The test has three sections – Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning.
The three sections are individually timed. Thus, the Language skills section comprising 32 questions has to be answered in 22 minutes, Quantitative skills with 48 questions in 60 minutes and Logical reasoning of 40 questions in 38 minutes.
Candidates are free to choose the order of sections according to their convenience. Thus, you could start with quantitative skills first. However, you are not allowed to move back and forth across the three sections.
In effect, this means you complete the section you have opened, then do a quick review and move on to the next. Even if you manage to finish one section with time to spare, the time thus saved cannot be transferred to the next section.
The Review Screen at the end of every section will allow you to either move directly to incomplete (unanswered) questions, flagged for review questions or review all or any questions.
Time management is essential with each section to be completed within the allotted time.
If for some reason, you are unable to take the test on the allotted day, your are allowed to apply for a retake, subject to a maximum of three times during the year’s testing period. This includes the first attempt plus a maximum of two retake attempts. ‘No shows’ are also considered as attempts.
The retake registration option will be enabled in your dashboard after the exam date. Registration for the retake is by simply clicking on the Retake section and payment of the retake registration fees. The personal particulars and other details need not be filled in again.
The retake exam date can be scheduled 15 or more days after the most recent date of attempt.
NMAT does not have negative marking. However, that does not mean that you should try guesswork and hope to win. The Mantra in cracking the test, like any other one, is study and practice. A mock test is available at NMAT by GMAC official website (www.nmat.org.in) with 120 questions.
