Summer Placement for the MBA (International Business) 2016-18 batch at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) saw the average stipend going up by 14% to Rs. 1.27 lakh as compared to Rs. 1.10 lakh in the previous year with nearly 60% of the batch receiving six-figure offers.
The 288 students received offers from 88 recruiters, the highest being Rs. 2.5 lakh. The top 25 received average stipend of Rs. 2.06 lakh, the top 50 at Rs. 2.0 lakh and top 100 at Rs. 1.8 lakh.
Sales & Marketing topped the domain-wise distribution at 32% followed by Finance at 21% and Consulting at 15%. In sector-wise distribution, BFSI claimed 19%, FMCG at 18% and Conglomerates 13%.
The new recruiters numbering 33 included Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Nestle, Bain & Company, Colgate-Palmolive, Sun Pharma, PWC, Walmart, Aditya Birla, Make My Trip, Bosch, Idea and JSW.
In Finance sector, major recruiters were DBS, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and HSBC coming up with 39 offers in retail banking, general management, commercial banking and strategic transaction roles. In Strategy and Consulting, Bain & Co. visited IIFT for the first time hiring the largest number of students from a single campus.
The first time recruiters Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Nestle, Colgate-Pamolive, Philips Lighting and Perfetti Van Melle further strengthened IIFT’s position in this domain. ITC, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., L’Oreal, Shell, Britannia made 42 offers.
The top brands that dominated the placement season at IIFT included HUL, ITC, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase & Co, Nestle, Godrej Industries Limited (GILAC), Colgate Palmolive, Marico, Shell, GE, BNY Mellon, Dabur, Bain Capability Centre, Deloitte, GSK CH, J&J Pharma, Google, Amazon, Citibank, Axis Bank among others. The TATA group (TATA Steel, TATA Motors, Titan, and TATA International & TCS) made a total of 16 offers, thereby creating a strong presence on the campus.
Despite stagnation in the trade and shipping industry, trade giants such as ADM, Louis Dreyfuss, ITC, Mount Meru Group, Golden-AgriResources and TATA International continued their association with IIFT offering 15 international roles. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited visited the institute for the first time seeking to recruit for the Trade Finance role.
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recruited exclusively from IIFT for their Paris office. The World Trade Organization continued its special relationship with the Institute to recruit interns for their Geneva office.
Firms in Consulting domain hired extensively from IIFT with over 13% of the batch opting to intern in this sector. Bain Capability Center (BCC) recruited from IIFT for the first time. The institute also hosted Deloitte, Global e-Procurement (GeP), Synergy Consulting Inc, PwC, CEB, Cognizant Business Consulting, Capgemini Consulting and Gartner. Executive search firm Russell Reynolds continued its trend of hiring summer interns exclusively from IIFT.

The General Management domain witnessed regular recruiters like Shell, Mahindra and Mahindra, Airtel, Godrej Properties Limited, Axis Bank, JSW Steel Ltd, RPG, L&T, Robert Bosch, Google and Capgemini. IT/ITes firms like TCS and Wipro offered a wide range of roles.
Amazon hired the maximum number of interns for the Operations profile. Maersk Line, the world’s largest container shipping company continued to hire from IIFT. Damco was one of the first-time recruiters in the campus. Bennett Coleman & Co.
