IIMB Student Chosen To Participate In Young Social Entrepreneur Summit In SingaporeAbhijeet Bhatt, a student of IIM Bangalore’s Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management, batch of 2013, has been selected to participate in the Singapore International Foundation Young Social Entrepreneurs Workshop 2016, to be held from 16th to 19th March 2016, in Singapore.

Representing IIM Bangalore at this international event, Abhijeet will present his venture MySportsCard, which he describes as “a launch pad for talent in sports”. MySportsCard is an online platform for scholarships and opportunities for young sportspersons and is incubated at IIMB’s NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) as a student-run venture.

“During my time as an exchange student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, I was inspired by the importance given to sports in school and college. The impact that sport has on the life of students is phenomenal. Sport in India is yet to be seen as a viable career. However, with premier leagues coming up in various sports including kabaddi, badminton, hockey, basketball and wrestling to name a few, the scenario is fast changing,” Abhijeet says.

With six years of web and application development experience, Abhijeet says he decided to take the entrepreneurial path and set up MySportsCard. He wants to set up sports development programs at the grassroots level across the country and hopes that sport will provide opportunities to the youth in rural India.

In 2015, MySportsCard was selected as a finalist entry at the National Student Startup Challenge YuStart, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). Abhijeet’s venture has also been selected as a top 500 idea at the national-level Power of Ideas Challenge, organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Outstanding participants of the YSE Workshop 2016 will be selected to take part in an ongoing mentorship scheme, overseas YSE study visit, and a Pitching for Change session to obtain funding to launch or develop their social enterprises. All participants will also join the institute’s alumni network, where they benefit from business clinics and networking sessions.

This year, SIF drew 52 teams, comprising 123 participants from Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vietnam and Yemen.
