Summer Placement for the 21st PGP batch at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode saw 9 students securing the highest stipend of Rs 3,00,000 and a rise of 25% in the average offer.
The placement was completed in a record four days, compared to the previous best of six and half days. As many as 100 recruiters had turned up at with a total offer of 359 job opportunities.
IIM K said, along with the increase in the average monthly stipend, the recruiters offered several niche roles to the students.
Prof Priya Nair Rajeev, Chairperson, Placements attributed the rise in stipends to the improvement in the calibre of students leading to increased interest among the new recruiters and more number of offers from the regular recruiters.
IIM K said around 50% of the recruiters had figured the Fortune 500 list of companies. The top 100 students had secured an average stipend of Rs 2,24,100. Operations and Consulting profiles offered above 50% increase in average stipend.
The highest offers were in the sales and marketing domain with more than 30% of the batch securing roles in companies including Asian Paints, Colgate-Palmolive, HUL, ITC, L’Oreal and Marico.
As many as 35 new recruiters participated in the placements process. New roles offered across verticals included Corporate Treasury by GS and GM roles by UGH. Around 35% of the students were offered roles from the Sales & Marketing vertical.
Amazon, Deloitte Strategy & Operations, Fidelity Investments, Goldman Sachs, Wipro, Hewlett Packard and Pidilite were among the top recruiters extending 74 offers in total. The new recruiters included Amazon, Abbot, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, Kotak Wealth Management, Media.net, Procter & Gamble, Quintiles IMS and United Health Group.
The highest offers were in the sales and marketing domain with more than 30% of the batch securing roles in companies including Asian Paints, Colgate-Palmolive, HUL, ITC, L’Oreal and Marico.
Financial services companies came up with offers in corporate finance, investment banking, risk advisory services, global investment research and corporate treasury for around 20% of the batch. American Express, Axis Bank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan were some of the top recruiters for this vertical.
“IIM Kozhikode continued to garner interest from various start-ups which provided the students with leadership roles. We thank our alumni who extended their unwavering support in achieving these record placements,” the Institute said in a statement.

It said summer internship was an integral part of the PGP program. During their first year, students are trained in functional areas of Marketing, Finance, Consulting, Economics, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Operations and Information Technology which orient them towards a business culture. The courses aim at moulding their work ethic and developing skills highly valued by the contemporary industry.
On completion of the first year of the program, students spend 8-10 weeks during the summer in the industry. They get exposed to a real-time business environment and take up responsibilities and goals which aim at being mutually beneficial for both the student and the organization.
It serves as a platform for applying the management theories learnt in the classroom and helps in providing clarity about the functional area that they desire to specialize in. Internships thus have a crucial influence on the career path and choice of an organization by the student.
