The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) has achieved 100 percent summer placement for its very first batch, the PGP class of 2015-17.
All students of the 49-member batch, except one, who intended to pursue a start-up effort, had participated in the placement process.
IIM Visakhapatnam, set up in 2015, is being mentored by IIM Bangalore. In the first phase of summer placements, jointly conducted with IIM Bangalore (IIMB) 31 students were selected. The second phase of the selection process, conducted in IIM V campus, lasted three months.
Among the 33 recruiters were KPMG and Ernst & Young in the Consulting and Banking sectors. Those from technology sector included Xiaomi, Directi, Mindtree, Capgemini, Sutherland Global, Mphasis and SkyQuest.
According to IIM V, its two-year, full-time, residential Post Graduate Programme is designed to equip students to take on leadership roles in a rapidly changing global scenario. In reality though IIM V’s PGP Class, like any other IIM’s pre-work experience two-year PGP Class, comprises largely of recent graduates and freshers who are offered entry level roles on graduation, typically as ‘management trainees’.
Key product management and project management internships were offered by Hopscotch, Mauj.com, IITIIM, Shaadi.com, Channelplay, and Furlenco, among others.
Professor Ganesh Prabhu, Chairperson, Career Development Services, IIM Bangalore expressed happiness at the first batch of IIMV students being able to get internships within two months of joining. Regular IIMB recruiters had offers for IIMV students also, he said.
The first phase of the internship process was held at IIMB campus. IIMB Placement Representative Arun Narayan pointed out that the students volunteered complete support to their IIMV counterparts in resume preparation and in honing up interview skills.
Ripusudan Adhikari, Placement Representative, IIM Visakhapatnam, attributed the success to students having focused on targets in the sectors they wanted and achieving their goals.

With three terms in a year and summer internship on completion of first year, the Programme lays foundation for conceptual and analytical reasoning, and gives students an insight into the dynamics of the business environment. Guest lectures, by various academicians, industrialists, and eminent personalities, also enrich student experience, it says.
Courses are delivered and evaluated through a combination of lectures, classroom discussions, case studies, individual and group projects, term papers, role plays, business games etc. (Image source: flickr)
