The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad’s 2-year Food and Agribusiness Management (PGP-FABM) program has been ranked number 1 for the year 2017 by the Paris-based ranking agency Eduniversal which specialises in higher education.
In the Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking Agribusiness / Food Industry Management -Worldwide list of 50 educational institutions, the 2nd rank has gone to the University of California-Berkeley for its Graduate Program and PhD Agribusiness program and 3rd rank to ESSEC Business School for its MS Management International Agro-Alimentaire.
The 4th rank has gone to Cornell University’s Master of Science and in Food Industry Management, 5th rank to Universidad de Buenos Aires, 6th to The University of Melbourne’s Melbourne School of Land and Environment, 7th to University of British Columbia – Faculty of Land and Food Systems, 8th to Universidad Austral – Faculty of Business, 9th Purdue University- Center for Food and Agricultural Business and 10th to Texas A&M University – College of Agriculture & Life Sciences.
Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar occupying the 19th rank for its Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Rural Management) is the only other institute from India figuring in the rankings.
IIM-A’s PGP-FABM is a full-time 2-year program with an intake of 46 students. The course covers food processing, commodities and rural development sector and rural infrastructure.
Program Chairperson Debjit Roy attributed the consistent success in the rankings to the cross-functional management exposure of students who come from diverse backgrounds such as agriculture and food sciences, engineering, biotechnology and life sciences. “This prepares the participants to take up challenges in this sector-focussed problem-solving. The alumni from this program are playing a key role in shaping up policies and addressing the needs of this sector,” he added.

PGP-FABM has been consistently ranked Number one or second in the World in Agribusiness and Food Industry Management programs by Eduniversal. The program curriculum has a solid managerial foundation, with a focus on food and agribusiness marketplace, and is designed to build and enhance a global perspective among participants, he said.
“What makes this programme unique is the pedagogy used-Case Method of learning. While the first year consists of general management course work, the participants devote their second year terms in developing expertise in the agriculture and food-processing sector,” Roy said.
